Excellent Run to End 2007 Season
FAVC Champion Michelle Geiger ran in her first Regional Championship Meet on Sat. 10/27. A cool, moist day, with soft ground created nearly ideal running conditions. The top 16 individuals would qualify to the State Meet, something no Norwood runner has done since 1995.  Michelle started well, but the leaders never let up. Michelle finished with a 21:07, her second best time ever and an 8 second improvement from Districts, and finished 52 out of 129 girls.
A great experience, and Michelle, Toria Alsip, and Josh Barlow ALL plan on being in the race next year. AND the year after. What a great group of sophomores!
This was a very good race, a great experience, and an upbeat end to a good season of XC running.

As we stare the Off-Season square in the face I have been challenged by one of the parent's (you know who you are, CG) to run a series of motivational quotes here, so it doesn't get stale over the winter. I can't think of a better start than this, from a great marathoner:
(see above, I moved it with the later quotes)

Norwood Girls Finish 1-2 at FAVC
Michelle Geiger (left)  and Nicolle Segrist-Bellamah (right) both sophomores, placed first and second in the FAVC Scarlet Division Championships on Sat., Oct. 13. Michelle successfully defended her title from last year, running nearly the same time but on a much tougher course. Nicolle is in her first year of XC after taking a gold and two silver medals last spring at the Conference Track Championship.
The duo led the team (Toria Alsip -12th; Molly Schneider -22; and Nicole Eldred -25) to a third place team finish with 46 points, just 10 points behind Champion Northwest's 36, and 3 behind runnerup Ross.

And Congratulations to:
NMS 7th grader Natalie Geiger
on 10/6  Natalie finished second at the FAVC MS XC Championship.
fellow 7th graders Brenda Bauer - 12th and Hannah Hale- 13th also ran well.
Great performances that bode well for the future of Norwood XC.

Can we recapture our Crown?
Our Girls team did NOT defend their '06 title at the '07 meet. We were a close third, and if everything had gone well we MIGHT have won. But we didn't. If we want to recapture the title, the time is NOW.  Championships, especially distance running ones, are won in the off season. MILES now, during track season, and over the summer are CRITICAL.

Get out there and RUN
