2007 NHS Boys Varsity Cross Country Team
One runner can push himself to be good, but it is a lot easier if he has some one to train with. If there is a group of a certain size, it can be like a chain reaction and they all start feeding off each other. We have never had that group . . . this could be it. These guys LIKE to hurt themselves, but they LOVE to hurt each other. Reminds me of a team I was on back in . . .
Victor Dornette Sr.
Class of 2010. Victor is really a wrestler, sprinter and pole vaulter. He comes out for XC to stay fit and to help us have a whole team. A hardworker, he knows how to hurt himself in practice and have fun at the same time. He is a big asset, always willing to help out. If we can just teach him how NOT to run like a wrestler he will be a force!
Daniel Barber Jr.
Daniel is back for his second year of XC. He just missed breaking 20 minutes last year as our #3 guy, and has set that as his first order of business this year, but his big goal is to be NHS' first since '95 to go under 18. Daniel is always pushing himself, especially when Coach Mike is running with him. He spent the summer doing some long runs and bike rides, and is ready to build off that base work. Our team leader during the week and on the race course, our goal is First Team All-Scarlet this year, and hopefully go for the title as a senior.

Logan is in his second year of XC and working hard. He has had a couple of frustrating little injuries that set him back, but he always bounces back and works hard. He has also grown. A LOT. That can bring problems of its own for distance training, but he is rounding into shape and should be in the running for a top 20 finish.
Josh Sherman Jr.
Josh is one of our recruits /discoveries from Spring Track. He has been building his fitness, and in his first XC race led all of our new comers on the Wilmington Course. Josh is great to have around, always willing to work hard and give a little more, and stays upbeat, so we are expecting some great things in the near future.
Jonathon Rhodes Jr.
Jon is a wrestler and former football player, but when he discovered the 400m last spring, we discovered him. It did not take much arm twisting to convince him to bring his speed and strength to bear on 5k. It is a bit of a stretch to jump from 400 to 5000 meters, but he is doing a good job at it. Our real goal is to build the stamina to claim the school 400 (800?) record, but that could translate to some XC success, too.
Ty Diersing Jr.
Ty is another Track recruit from spring, but we have been trying to get him out for XC since he was an eighth grader after his older sisters "scouted" him for us. Ty looks like a swimmer, but he has a great stride that should serve him well as he gets stronger. You can see in his face that he is not afraid to push through the pain. He will be an integral part of this team as the season devleops.
Conner Maglecic Jr.
Yet another wrestler-- Thank you, Mr. Robisch. Conner did NOT get recruited for XC during track, but the reverse may be true! He is a big guy, likes to work hard, and seems to be freakishly fond of putting his body through painful workouts. He is a great addition to the make up of the team.
